According to the Lehman Library we were able to find out about the two antique WPA Dioramas we are lising tonight.

In response to the wide spread unemployment caused by Great Depression, Presdient Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration initiated the Work Progress Administration (WPA). The Museum Extension Project (MEP) was a sub agency of the WPA's Professional and Service Division. Between 1935 and 1943 the WPA MEP created approximately 1 million objects to help children learn while providing jobs to an average of 1200 people who otherwise would have been unemployed.. Tonight we are listing two of the original WPA Dioramas depicting American Indians.

The first Diorama measures 10" long by 13" wide by 8 ¾. On the top is a label marked 45-MD-8 Grinding Corn, Hopi.

The Diorama depicts two handmade pottery Indians inside a Hopi home. On one side there are drying ears of corn and on the other side a Hopi woman is grinding corn. The second WPA Diorama measures the same size and depicts Hopi Indians making pottery. There is a label on the top but it is too worn to read..
