Amanda Swimmer Native American Cherokee Indian Wedding Vase & 2 Bowls/Vessel Set

Remarkable trio of Pre Owned Amanda Swimmer pottery in as found condition. This trio consists of a wedding vase and two vessel bowls.

The largest bowl is dated July 3rd, 1971. This bowl is also near mint condition for it's age.

The wedding vase at some point was broken and someone tried to repair it. It is a solid piece, but was previously broken, yet still a very nice item.

The smallest bowl has one chip on the outer top lip as shown in the pics otherwise in very good solid condition. The wedding vase measures approx. 7 1/2" tall x 5" wide. The smallest bowl is 5 1/4" tall x 7" wide.

The largest bowl is approx. 5 3/4" tall x 7" wide.

Minor cracking on the inside from age yet all 3 pieces are solid. The largest bowl is signed "Amanda Swimmer" with the Oconaluftee Village stamp, the other two pieces are signed "Mandy Swimmer" with both the exact same Oconaluftee Village stamp and are indeed Amanda Swimmer's pottery. Any blacking on the vessels are from the open firing technique and from the wood that was used during the firing process. We believe all three pieces were made at the same time as they are so similar in design.

Amanda Swimmer born in 1921 is one of the best-known potters in the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. She hand creates and fires her pots in traditional manner then cures them in the sun and fired in an open pit.

Amanda began working at the Oconaluftee Indian Village in her 30's. And remained for more than thirty-five years. Amanda's pottery has been nationally recognized while also receiving numerous awards.
