Please read below for information about the maker. Exquisite Large size Navajo Horse Hair pottery created by Hanna Jay of the Rainbow Clan. Horse Hair pottery is the most unique of the Navajo pottery. Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art. Fine lines are created with the hair from the mane of the horse and thick lines are created from the hair of the tail.
All are applied by hand when the pot is hot, melting and becoming an original design. Never to be duplicated again. This pottery is incised with beautiful flowers and a lovely Hummingbird.Complete with finely incised feathers. The remainder of the pot is adorned with flowers of varying size. Hannah and her husband, Johnnie are famous for their beautiful, spiritual designs. After the pot is fired, it is rock polished using no paint or glaze. Measures approximately 9 3/4 tall. Measures 27 1/2 in circumference (All around the widest part of the pot).
The top measures approximately 4 1/2 across the opening. Signed by the makers with their clan name.Please note: The bright spot on the photos is the camera flash. Hanna Jay of the Rainbow clan has been a potter for over fifteen years. Her Grandmother made Santa Clara style pottery before her. Hanna and her husband Johnnie live near Hovenweep in the Four Corners area on the Dine (Navajo) reservation.
