Handmade pot is 10 3/4 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter it's in excellent shape no chips cracks or problems with the paint. Lois Gutierrez is one of the best known potters from the Santa Clara pueblo. Lois learned pottery making from her mother Petra Montoya Gutierrez. Her work revises but reinterprets poly chrome decoration, which has almost disappeared at Santa Clara.
Lois does the potting and painting of the pot, her husband Derek helps with the firing which is always done outdoors. In 1982 Lois and Derek won the BEST OF SHOW at the Santa Fe Indian Market. The 4 marks around the rim symbolizes the 4 cardinal direction or the 4 sacred mountains. This is the only pot that I have ever seen with skunks on it. I'v been told the skunk is suppose to keep you from Evil and Harm.
I would say the color of the pot is Buckskin. This is a very heavy pot.
