Beautiful, and very early, 13.25 long neck jar which was coil built, stone polished, painted and native fired. The jar has a water serpent (avanyu) painted around the shoulder while the neck and area below the shoulder are polished.
It was made by Maria and painted by her husband Julian. It is signed in the clay Mariesignifying it was made between 1923 and 1925. This very well preserved piece - almost 100 years old - measures 13.25 H x 8 7/8 W. Not uncommon in early pieces, there is a very small (1) stress crack on the bottom just below the M, a small pit on the painted design and a few dimples, all of which are common on older pieces. A collector should feel fortunate to have such a large and rare early piece in such fine condition in their collection.
