This is a spectacular custom made One-of-a-Kind Black Swirl Ribbed Vase masterpiece by mega famous Santa Clara potter Nancy Youngblood and San Ildefonso potter Russell Sanchez, circa 2008. This collaboration with Russell Sanchez was one of a kind.
The bringing together of two wonderful artists! This spectacular vase has 16 S ribs, intricate, symmetrical and magnificently shaped. The bottom of the jar is small and narrow, and that structure creates an absolute elegance. Measures approx 7" tall x 6" wide.
Hallmarked by the famous master potter. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Nancy Youngblood is famously known for her black swirl ribbed bowls and jars of all sizes and this masterpiece is a perfect example of Nancys best work.
The complex consistency of the carved ribs and the beautiful black tone she achieves with her polishing is simply amazing. Russell Sanchez is an award winning potter and continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery. The two strands of super fine olive shell Heishi beads, made by Mary Calabaza from Santo Domingo pueblo, was inlaid around the neck and Russell's expert sgraffito gives this form such visual appeal (the inlay of the heishi beads is inspired by the work of Tony Da and Russell is the only living artist who was taught by Tony how to inlay into the pottery).
The lip is scalloped with an even and perfect tone. The firing is close to gun metal and magnificent. For those people that admire simplicity at its best this is it. This is such a classic piece.
