Native American Pottery by Hopi Indian Lena Chio Charlie, known as Corn Woman
This is a beautiful vintage. Native American piece of pottery made. By Hopi Indian Artist Lena Chio Charlie, known as "Corn Woman". This piece of polychrome Native American pottery is in wonderful condition with some old damage on the rim. There is one spot on the side that probably happened when it was made, shown in photos.

Lena was an active potter from 1933 to 1961. She signed her pottery with an ear of corn hallmark which is on the bottom of this pot.

The pottery is 9 1/2 tall and 8 1/2 inches wide. Lena Charlie was related to Nampeyo in some way, though the stories vary. It's safe to say she was related to Nampeyo of Hano, but the relationship is not definitely defined. When Nampeyo's sight was deteriorating & she was unable to paint her pottery anymore, she would often take pieces to Lena for her to paint, when her daughters were unavailable. Lena was an accomplished traditional potter, known for her fine lines. And this vintage Corn Woman pot is a wonderful example of her work! A beautiful Lena Chio Charlie polychrome pot and an important addition to any Hopi pottery collection.
