Hand Crafted Polychrome Pottery Incensario Style Bowl Created from Native Clay and Slip at Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico. 3 1/2 inches high x 5 1/4 inches in diameter. Condition: Near Mint; slight wear. Description: This is an uncommon and exceptionally crafted Incense burner type bowl (although probably never intended for that purpose) executed in local mineral slips by a highly decorated brother and sister artistic duo. The bowl has outstanding form, subtle color, and represents work by these artisans at the height of their creativity. Santa Clara Pueblo is about 25 miles Northwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Margaret Gutierrez (born 1936) and Luther Gutierrez (19111987) were brother and sister Native American potters from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico. They continued the polychrome style of painting made famous by their parents Lela & Van Gutierrez. They learned the art from their parents and began making pottery together in the 1960s. This item is guaranteed to be authentic and in the condition described.
