Len Wood's Indian Territory. Mint or Near Mint condition.6 1/2"d x 4 3/4"ht. High quality example of Helen Shupla's famous melon jar in blackware form. Helen Shupla carved the inside as well as the outside so that the clay walls were consistent across the entire wall at a time when few were making melon jars or were making thick walled pots carved only on the outside. Her expertise at this style became so popular that a group of Helen Shupla's melon jar pots were selected as the cover photo of the pueblo pottery reference book "Talking with the Clay". Notes from Len Wood's Indian Territory Gallery. Shown here is an excellent example of a pot in great condition.
