Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery by Earlene Youngbird Tafoya Native American
Circa 90's or 2000 Santa Clara pueblo pottery. With normal wear on surface. Hand coiled and poly-chrome painted avanyu design pottery bowl. Stands 3 3/4" tall and 4 1/2" wide. Traditionally hand built with native clay, perfectly stone burnished, then painted with buff, orange, and cream slips, pit fired.

Pottery is decorated with 3 bands of varying designs in Earlene's characteristic style: - An elaborate stylized water serpent "Avanyu" wrapped around. The shoulder - A repeating geometric design is at the mid-section - The bottom band contains contemporary pueblo geometric designs. Signed "Earlene Youngbird-Tafoya Santa Clara Pueblo" as shown in photo.

Gregory Schaaf, Earlene Young Bird Tafoya is one of the finest potters in the style of polychrome redware. Her design work is exceptional. She often balances three design bands, such as an Avanyu, feathers in a row, and then a third of her own creation.

She is one of the best pottery painters. Her pots are especially well made. 3 3/4" H x 4 1/2" W.
