1968 Santa Clara Blackware 4 Pots by Madeline Naranjo Native American w/ pics. This lot includes all 4 pieces shown as well as a box of slides from 1968 showing her making her pottery taken by the original owner. Kenneth Honea, an associate professor of anthropology. Award winning artist Madeline Naranjo was born in 1915 and made pottery since 1931. She was taught by her aunts Rufina Baca and Petra Tafoya. She and her daughter Frances gathered the materials from the Santa Clara Reservation and she fired her pottery outdoors. Her work is very high quality. She has won too many awards to mention starting in 1964, all the way through 1994. She had made pottery all her life to earn a living.

She is featured in several books and has passed her talent on to her daughter Frances Naranjo and her granddaughter Madeline E. Her work is mentioned in Dr. Gregory Schaaf's book "Pueblo Indian Pottery: 750 Artist Biographies, " page 69 and "Santa Clara Pottery Today" by Betty Freeman. Her work rare and highly prized among collectors and museums - very rarely seen on the market which adds to this pots work.
