Antique SAN ILDEFONSO COVERED SQUARE POTTERY BOX w COLOR DECORATION, c. 1910-30s

Antique SAN ILDEFONSO COVERED SQUARE POTTERY BOX w COLOR DECORATION, c. This is a rare San Ildefonso decorated square pottery box with the original cover, civca 1910 to 1930s, or so. Box is about 4 square and 4 1/8 high to the top of the handle, and it is in very good condition with a little minor damage. It is decorated with typical Pueblo designs ising black paint on a white slip ground, all on a pale red clay structure.

There are 4 red colored triangles on the lid along with some areas of blue-green color on both the lid and one side of the box, as pictured. There is the usual wear and discoloration from age, and the handle has been broken and reglued as shown in the last photo. These small square boxes are not common, and the use of colored decoration is definitely an unusual feature of this box. Note the previous owner put the small green felt circles on the bottom. This was recently found in New England.
