Beautiful Old Acoma Pottery Native American Indian
This is a beautiful antique Acoma pot made by an Acoma American Indian many years ago. I have been collecting artifacts since I was a young girl living just outside of Mesa Verde. The designs and colors are vivid and classic Acoma. The pot has a "V" crack extending down from the rim about 3 1/2" (see photo) in one place and then a short ways in the adjoining "V line. This second smaller crack may have been partway filled with glue, but I'm not sure.
Around on another part of the rim, there is a much smaller and less substantial crack that extends maybe an inch down. Inside there is a surface crack that is circular. On the surface there are pits and some imperfections. None of the "damage" detracts from the beauty of this piece of pottery, I believe.The designs have maintained their pretty browns, orange, and cream. The bottom has the older "dip" of a pot made the first half of the 1900's.
Just a wonderful old pot for a collection or by itself on a shelf or table. The pot represents Acoma Pueblo culture along with the artistry of its people. Measures 8 1/2" H X 10 1/2' D, 5 1/2" at rim. What looks like stains inside is really sand -- I didn't want to wipe it out with a damp cloth, worried I might damage the pot. Please let me know if you would like to see additional photos. This pot is more impressive in real life - it has a presence that is not captured in the photos.
