Lewis is considered the matriarch of Acoma pottery and is considered one of the most innovative Pueblo potters as well. Lucy was born around 1890 and died in 1992.
Lucy gathered, ground, mixed and shaped the clay and painted the old designs and ultimately fired the pot, traditionally, outdoors in an open fire. The hand-coiled, hand-painted figurine is approximately 3 inches long by.
The black-on-white design work is exceptional; very good condition -no cracks, hairlines or repairs; a fine item to add to your collection of Native American pottery.
