Maria Martinez And Popovi Da 12 Feather Plate. No Reserve

Offered is a very beautiful San Ildefonso pottery plate by Maria Martinez and Popovi Da. 1950, this beautiful piece exemplifies why the collaborative work of these two famous family members is so high revered. Nice polish but I don't consider the firing to be gunmetal since that process reads more metallic. (no date) Measures: 11.7/8th wide.

Condition is very good to excellent. Photographed outside in natural light. Minor issues of a couple of scratches and minor wear to the interior field; less than 1 at the longest. (shown) There is a long arced rub/ faint scratch that runs a broken 2-3 through the feathers in one area. There are 2 firing areas where the black is a touch light at the rim (shown) I photographed the plate as best I could to show how the piece displays most accurately to the naked eye.

I have turned the plate so that the light catches and demonstrates the flaws that are present. If you are familiar with these pieces then you will know that flaws show differently at different angles so please look carefully. This plate isn't perfect but few are it seems after all these years. Those offered in galleries are very expensive.
