Native American Pottery-Santa Clara Brown Pottery Polished Wedding Vase-Bourdon
Native American Art - 100% Authentic Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery - Stunning hand coiled and polished natural brown pottery Wedding Vase created by Santa Clara Pueblo potter Birdell Bourdon "Vine Flower". Vase is a simple design with a braided handle. Hand signed on bottom by artist. A Wedding Vase is a vessel still used in traditional Pueblo wedding ceremonies.

One spout of the vessel represents each partner. The looped handle represents the unity achieved with marriage. The space created within the loop represents the circle of life. In a traditional ceremony the couple drink from the spouts to represent the blending of their lives. Birdell Bourdon "Vine Flower" was born in 1957 in the Santa Clara/Tewa Pueblo.

She is the daughter of the late Marie Sisneros, from whom she learned the method of hand coiling pottery in the way of her ancestors, which includes gathering of the clay, shaping, hand coiling and firing the piece outdoors using sawdust. Birdell is well known for her polished, hand coiled black pottery and is keeping the tradition alive by mentoring her children in the traditional ways of making pottery. Artist: Birdell Bourdon "Vine Flower". Size: 6 1/4" tall, 6" wide, 2 1/2 deep.
