Owl effigy pot from Santa Clara Pueblo

Contemporary Santa Clara Pueblo polychrome painted owl effigy by Margaret & Luther Gutierrez. This piece measures 9-1/4 high x 6-1/2. The Gutierrez family is noted for having developed the polychrome painted style at Santa Clara Pueblo, where the most common style is the black carved pottery. Margaret and Luther produced many great vessel forms during their career but perhaps some of the most unique work they created was in animal effigy form.

This particular piece is unusually large and possesses the character that so many of their best works display. The piece came to us by way of a historic Indian art dealer we know from Tucson, Arizona. The item "Owl effigy pot from Santa Clara Pueblo" is in sale since Friday, March 25, 2016.
