Vintage Acoma Southwest Native American Bisque Fired Red Clay Handpainted Mask

VINTAGE RARE ACOMA SOUTHWEST NATIVE AMERICAN BISQUE FIRED RED CLAY. This rare vintage Acoma Native American bisque-fired red clay tribal mask is in 100% as-found, original condition.

It has not been washed or cleaned. It bears the decorative hallmarks of Acoma hand-built red clay pottery, with its matte finish, hand-tooled construction, burnt sienna, sepia and putty colored matte glazes.

It is bisque fired in an open stone kiln. It is unsigned and is fairly monumental. There are no hairline cracks, flea-bites, paint (glaze) loss or fractures.

The edges are clean and aside from it being previously handled, it is in relatively unscathed condition. There are some incidental scuff marks and signs of abrasion, due to the facia of the mask coming into contact with other objects, possibly being laid face down.

The mask consists of a 3-dimensional round sphere, with cut-out elliptical eyes and mouth and raised, naturalistic nose. Single sepia brushwork lines are used, along with geometric color fields. 12 ½" Height x 10 ¼" Width x 7 Depth. Very Good/Excellent with no flea-bites, hairline cracks, fractures or deep abrasions to its decorated surface.

Only a few minor incidental scuff marks where it previously came into contact with other surfaces.
