Zia Pueblo Roadrunner Polychrome Jar sgnd Eusebia Shije Native American Pottery
Offered is a lovely signed Eusebia Shije roadrunner polychrome jar from the Zia Pueblo in New Mexico, ca. The piece is a typical example of Zia pottery with dark brown images and design work on a brownish red and creamy white background. The pot is a sturdy, slightly granular, basalt-tempered red clay. There are a few minor imperfections but the piece looks to be in very good condition overall. Please look carefully at the photos.

The overall dimensions are approximately 2 3/4" high and 3" in diameter. Eusebia Shije was born in the 1936 (according to the Museum of Fine Art in Boston) and has been creating works of clay art for over 60 years. Her pottery has won numerous awards throughout the Southwest including the exhibits at the Indian Arts Fund for overall Excellence in 1981, the Richard M. Howard award for Best Traditional Zia Pottery in 1979 and 1980, and has taken first, second and third place for jars and bowls a number of years in the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market. Provenance : During the early 1970s a relative and her parents spent a year in Albuquerque, NM.

Because of interesting circumstances they visited a number of Pueblos in New Mexico and acquired a small number of art work pieces. One of them was the jar in this post. They met the Shije family at a wedding and were asked to take a few photos of the family after the ceremony (these are personal photos which are not shown).
